Who we are

Bookidoro is a Mac app made by Niko Peikrishvili in Tbilisi, Georgia, who is responsible for the data described here. In this policy, "we" means Niko Peikrishvili, the maker of Bookidoro. For any privacy question, write to [email protected].

What stays on your Mac

Bookidoro is built to work locally. The following never leaves your Mac:

• Your books. Bookidoro opens your PDF and EPUB files where they are and never changes them. It never uploads them to us; a book goes to your own iCloud Drive only if you choose Keep in iCloud.
• Your Library and settings, including reading positions: ~/Library/Preferences/com.popcorn.bookidoro.plist.
• Your reading history, used for the Statistics window: ~/Library/Application Support/com.popcorn.bookidoro/reading-log.jsonl, a plain text file you can open.
• Unpacked EPUBs and other temporary files, kept to open books quickly: ~/Library/Caches/com.popcorn.bookidoro.
• Your license key, kept in your macOS Keychain.

Call detection only reads whether your microphone or camera is in use, or whether a display is mirrored. Bookidoro never listens, records, or captures your screen.

iCloud sync between your Macs

If you use Bookidoro on more than one Mac, Sync with iCloud (Settings → General) keeps them in step. It's on when your Mac is signed in to iCloud, and you can turn it off at any time. It stores, in the app's private folder in your own iCloud account:

• your Library list (book titles, a fingerprint of each file's content to recognise the same book on another Mac, and your reading position), and each Mac's name;
• your reading history, for statistics across your Macs;
• your Bookidoro settings.

Book files are only uploaded if you choose Keep in iCloud for them: then a copy goes to iCloud Drive → Bookidoro, in your own iCloud, so your other Macs can open it. Everything else stays where it is. This data goes only between your devices and Apple's iCloud, under Apple's privacy policy; we have no access to it. Turning sync off stops it; to delete what's stored, turn sync off and remove Bookidoro's data in System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage.

What the app sends, and to whom

1. Update checks

With automatic updates on, Bookidoro checks about once a day for a new version by downloading a small file from updates.bookidoro.app, hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web request, it includes your IP address and the app's name and version. We use Cloudflare's aggregate traffic numbers to count downloads and active installs. You can turn automatic updates off in Settings → General.

2. License checks

Only if you enter a license key: Bookidoro sends the key to Gumroad, the store that sells licenses, when you activate it and about once a week afterwards, to confirm it's still valid. Gumroad replies with the purchase's status and the email address used to buy it, which Bookidoro shows as "Licensed to…". Without a license, nothing is sent to Gumroad.

3. Anonymous usage statistics

To learn which features help and where people get stuck, Bookidoro sends anonymous usage statistics to TelemetryDeck, an analytics service built for privacy. It's on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage statistics; the change takes effect immediately.

What's included: app and macOS version, Mac model, and system language and region (which TelemetryDeck's toolkit sends by default); how breaks end (done, snoozed, skipped and so on) and how many pages they covered; which settings you change and to what; whether a book added is a PDF or an EPUB; which windows you open; welcome-screen progress; and license steps (reminder shown, Buy clicked, license activated).

What's never included: book titles, file names, file contents, anything you read, your name, email or license key.

Each Mac is represented by a random identifier that is hashed on your Mac before it's sent, so we can count users without knowing who they are. Statistics are only ever looked at in aggregate.

Apple

When you first open Bookidoro, macOS may check with Apple that the app is signed and notarized. That's part of macOS, under Apple's privacy policy.

This website

• Hosting: bookidoro.app is served by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
• Statistics: the site uses TelemetryDeck too, without cookies or any storage in your browser. Each page load gets a new random identifier. We see which page was visited, the site you came from, campaign tags in the link, light or dark mode, clicks on Download and Buy, which sections came into view, which FAQ questions were opened, and calculator use.
• Google Analytics: the site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see how people move through the page, including the same clicks listed above. It sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and Google receives your IP address and browser details. Advertising features are switched off. You can block these cookies in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on. See Google's privacy policy.
• Fonts: loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.
• Checkout: the Buy button opens Gumroad's checkout, loaded from gumroad.com.

Buying a license

Licenses are sold through Gumroad, which handles payment and receipts as the merchant. Gumroad shares with us what's needed to provide your license and support: your email address, what you bought and when, and your license key. We never see your card details. We use this only to deliver your license, answer your messages and handle refunds.

What we don't do

• No accounts, sign-ups or logins.
• No advertising and no advertising cookies. The only cookies on this website are Google Analytics'.
• We don't sell, rent or trade your data, or share it with anyone beyond the services named above.

Your choices

• Turn off usage statistics in Settings → Privacy, and iCloud sync and automatic update checks in Settings → General.
• Delete everything Bookidoro keeps on your Mac by removing the files listed above, or remove single books from the Library.
• Ask us what purchase information we have about you, or ask us to delete it, at [email protected]. Usage statistics are anonymous, so we can't link them to you.
• If you're in the EU, the UK or another region with data protection laws, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Bookidoro isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here with a new date. Significant changes will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
